The Joint Plan Commission/Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously on Feb. 19 to recommend the Village Board adopt the Village of North Riverside Draft Comprehensive Plan, with formal findings that incorporate public safety and public comment. Peter Hughes, the Community Development Director, presented staff’s recommendation and stated, "Staff finds the draft Comprehensive Plan to be in the best interest of the Village and supports its adoption."
The draft plan establishes a 20-year policy framework to guide land use, housing, economic development, transportation, infrastructure and parks. The plan was prepared with technical support from Northern Illinois University and shaped by a citizen Task Force, public surveys and an open house held after the draft’s preparation. Commissioners emphasized that the findings they adopted will guide revisions before final adoption by ordinance of the Village Board.
