A council member introduced a resolution opposing proposed statewide changes to the Fair Housing Act (Assembly bill 4 and Senate bill 50), saying the measure would impose unrealistic obligations and deadlines and could strip local planning authority. "This bill proposes to overhaul the Fair Housing Act...we believe that it creates, unrealistic obligations with unrealistic deadlines based on onerous standards," the council member said, and other members expressed concern that vacant-land adjustments and local master plan authority could be weakened.
Council members noted that many towns in New Jersey are pursuing similar resolutions opposing the state approach; the mayor and clerk were directed to publish the resolution as adopted and to make information available on the borough website for residents who want to comment.
