Engineer outlines Russell Avenue and Wolf Road DOT-funded work; drainage and ADA ramps included

The borough engineer told the council that a pre-construction meeting had taken place for the Russell Avenue improvements, a New Jersey Department of Transportation-funded project that will focus on missing or deteriorated handicap ramps, new drop curbs at borough properties (mayor and council parking lot, police station, DPW, firehouse/ambulance corps) and milling and paving work slated for spring break.
The engineer also reported that Wolf Road work began that day with drainage work and that crews will allow the drainage to settle before returning to perform milling and paving and striping. Council members asked about safety, silt settling, signage, and temporary traffic control for the short periods when rigs must move out of the firehouse.
On Wolf Road the engineer said the work ties into an existing 30- to 36-inch downstream pipe; the design does not include a large settling basin because available space and maintenance considerations make that approach impractical. Council members asked the engineer to ensure adequate signage and to confirm plans for access by emergency vehicles during short-term closures; the engineer said he will coordinate and that temporary arrangements are planned.
The projects are funded by NJDOT grants and borough staff indicated they would schedule concrete and paving work to minimize disruption to schools and emergency services.
