Whitney ISD trustees returned to open session at 7:42 p.m. on April 23 after a closed executive session and voted unanimously to table the administration's recommendation to propose termination of a campus assistant principal. Trustee Ray Watson made the motion to table; Board President Charles Buzan seconded and the board recorded a unanimous vote.
The vote came after an extended public-comment period in which multiple teachers and parents urged the board not to dismiss the administrator, citing student safety and campus morale. Teacher Jenny Redding, who said she has taught at the district for 26 years, told trustees, "What is best for the kids is Dr. Slaughter." The meeting agenda had listed consultation under Texas Government Code Chapter 551 and personnel matters under Section 551.074, with the termination action referenced under Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code. The board adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
