The Rolling Meadows Environmental Committee voted Feb. 5 to approve up to $1,000 to purchase Illinois Native Monarch Habitat Seed Mix for this season's community distribution. Planner and Management Analyst Robert Savage told the committee that "Renovo Seeds have agreed to honor the pricing from last year, which is $880 for 8 acres of seed; equivalent to approximately 700 sample bags worth," and that the RMEC escrow account "currently sits at approximately $11,300."
Member Maggie Trevor moved approval of an amount not to exceed $1,000; Member Raymond Mau seconded the motion and the committee approved it by voice vote. Savage said staff estimate about 200 sample portions remain from last season and the additional purchase will replenish giveaway supplies for upcoming community events such as Meadows Fest and Duck Race outreach. Member Karen Gill suggested adding a QR code to seed packaging so residents can submit growth photos, a step staff said would help track community engagement and program outcomes.
