The Winona ISD Board of Trustees voted at a special-called meeting on Nov. 11 to proceed with bids for the GMP 2 Track and Field Lighting Project while postponing other related facility decisions.
According to meeting minutes, the board approved moving ahead with the stadium lighting work, placed the pressbox decision on hold, and postponed the track/turf project until the board's regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 18, 2024. The special meeting opened at 6:00 p.m. in the Winona High School Library and adjourned at 6:53 p.m.
Board President Randy Hawkins opened the meeting and led a prayer and the pledges. School administrators listed in the minutes as present included Superintendent Damenion Miller, Business Manager Sheila Bowie, Administrative Assistant Stephanie Woods and Maintenance Director Ronnie Marsh; Trustee William Allen was recorded as absent. The minutes state that quorum was established with six trustees present: Connie Gibbs, Diane Newman, Scott Jones, Randy Hawkins, Aaron Wilson and Mark Wintters.
The minutes do not record individual motions or roll-call votes for the lighting decision; they summarize the board's action to approve the lighting portion of the GMP 2 project, to put the pressbox on hold, and to postpone the track/turf deliberation to the Nov. 18 regular meeting. The minutes further record that, to adjourn the special meeting, Aaron Wilson moved to adjourn and Mark Wintters seconded; the boardvote was unanimous and the meeting ended at 6:53 p.m.
The actions taken leave final decisions about the pressbox and the track/turf project unresolved until the next regular meeting, when the board will consider further details and any additional bids or staff recommendations.
