The Granite School District Board of Education voted to adopt the tentative 2026-27 budget as the interim budget and set a preliminary tax rate of 0.006136. The interim budget motion was made by Kris Nguyen and seconded by Connie Burgess; the motion passed Yea: 6, Nay: 1 (Kim Chandler). The motion to set the preliminary tax rate was made by Connie Burgess and seconded by Kris Nguyen and passed by the same margin.
Board member Kim Chandler reiterated concerns about program priorities and property taxes, saying she "will not support raising property taxes when these impactful issues remain part of our budget." The board also authorized a Truth-in-Taxation hearing for August 18, 2026 at 6:00 PM (motion by Clarke Nelson, seconded by Karyn Winder), which passed unanimously.
