The board moved and unanimously approved changing the transfer‑station bulk permit rules to allow two free bulk pickups per household per month (24 per year) instead of one pickup per week. First Selectman Mike McCoo said the change aims to reduce frequent large weekly loads and lower town disposal costs; the measure will take effect Oct. 1 through June 30 for a transition period and then be the full‑year rule beginning July 1, 2027.
McCoo moved the change and read the motion into the record: "I moved that we changed the bulk allotment to 2 free per month effective October 1 through June 30, and then that would be continued for the full year starting July 1st 20 27th." The board discussed practical enforcement (visual checks of loads, operator discretion for under‑half‑bed loads) and noted additional loads would be charged $50 per load. The board also said it will review fees later if needed and that the transfer‑station operator staffing will be increased to improve oversight.
