Facilities director reports well-replacement cost spike; state requires well destruction

Paul Hartle, the district’s project lead, said the current project estimate is about $815,000 and described additional tasks the State Water Board has requested. “The amount's 815,000,” Hartle said. He told trustees the board asked for detailed answers and the district expects a follow-up call with the state to present the full package of information. Hartle also described a required well-destruction process for older contaminated wells, saying, “We actually will have to send down a small explosive,” and explained that properly sealing the old well could add substantial cost to the overall project.
