Tree warden urges inventory, cautions on defective town tree and ash borer risk

Alexander Chidiac, identified in the minutes as the town’s Tree Warden, updated the Selectboard on recent plantings and tree care on July 14. He said several trees donated for property next to the school were planted; one did not survive and he will replace it. He offered to plant the remaining trees in the fall.
Chidiac raised concerns about a town-owned tree he trimmed for a neighboring property owner, saying the tree, while generally healthy, has defects and previously installed cables are now undersized for the tree’s size. He recommended either removing the tree or installing larger, new cables to extend its safe life and asked the board for a removal quote if they opt to take it down.
Chidiac also relayed information from the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation about Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive insect that can kill ash trees quickly. He recommended the town perform an inventory of trees on town property and in the right of way, and offered to assist with the inventory if the Town Office provides mapping and location support.
