Darlington board approves band trip, equipment sale and coach hires; accepts $1,000 donation

The Darlington Community School District Board of Education approved several motions during its Oct. 9, 2024 regular meeting, including a spring 2026 band trip to St. Louis, the sale of old special-education equipment, and the acceptance of a $1,000 donation from the Knights of Columbus to support Rosie Bags.
The board also took personnel actions after an executive-session discussion: on motions carried in open session the board hired Will Schwartz, Jon Bryson and Brett Knautz as assistant football coaches at .333 full-time equivalent each. A separate proposed hire for a Communications Director was tabled. The minutes show the board approved a recommended compensation adjustment for a DEMS employee as presented.
Board motions were recorded as follows: Gratz moved to adopt the agenda (seconded by Winslow); Winslow moved to approve the Sept. 25, 2024 minutes (seconded by Stauffacher); Zuberbuhler moved to approve the band trip (seconded by Winslow); Gratz moved to approve the sale of special-education equipment (seconded by Winslow); Zuberbuhler moved to accept the $1,000 donation (seconded by Stauffacher). Votes carried as recorded in the minutes.
