Fine and Cultural Arts Commissioner Randy King presented the Commission’s proposal for an America 250 mural on the retaining wall north of the pavilion. City Manager Michael G. Dzugan told the Council that it had directed boards and commissions to explore options to commemorate America’s 250th birthday. Commissioner King said the commission would manage artist selection and present visuals to Council with the goal of starting work in the spring.
Councilmembers suggested incorporating American-flag colors, using brighter palettes and exploring collaboration with the Historic Commission to align the mural with local preservation objectives. Commissioner King said he would put out a call for artists and return to Council with visuals, emphasizing a single-artist approach to ensure a cohesive design.
