Highway department outlines upcoming road closures; resident warns SR 32 closure is unsafe

The Boone County Highway Department provided a schedule of upcoming road closures tied to utility and waterline work, with projected dates and durations. Highway staff listed closures including a cut at 50 East and 250 South projected for Aug. 13–14 (1–3 days), work on 260 South near 100 East projected Aug. 11–12, County Road 200 East closed for approximately four weeks between 400 South and 500 South for Lebanon Water Supply work, and portions of 300 East closed for approximately two weeks; staff noted weather and ground conditions are permitting factors.

During public comment, Jennifer Leslie (address provided) raised safety concerns about an INDOT closure on SR 32/West at a curve: "They have barrels that are set up, but it's right in the curve, and you can't see those barrels until you're right there." She asked whether the county had received complaints and requested the county check the situation; commissioners acknowledged the concern and said they would follow up.

Highway staff also reported that a project on Middle Jamestown Road (J A 27) was ahead of schedule and might open sooner than planned. County staff emphasized closures are subject to change based on weather and site conditions.
