Marquette County materials-management committee to deliver draft plan by June; county to seek reimbursements

Durant said the state authorized Marquette County to hold six seats on the committee and that the group is addressing complex topics — landfill siting, transfer-station operations, composting, and participation rules — and is working with local stakeholders and private haulers. She told the board the committee initially received about $100,000 and an additional roughly $80,000 for 2026 in reimbursable grants to cover payroll and staff time; county representatives also plan local measures such as providing carts to increase curbside recycling rates in line with a 2027 state target.
Board members raised concerns about funding and participation; staff said reimbursement grants are reimbursable and that counties must often cover meeting and planning costs in the interim. The county will host regular work sessions and follow the state's open-meeting rules as the committee works toward a June draft.
