Dunsmuir’s City Council voted to adopt the 2025–2027 operating budget by resolution (2025-16) after a lengthy review of staff proposals and finance-committee recommendations. The budget reflects operational deficits in multiple funds caused by inflation and the expected expiration of the city’s transaction-and-use tax but keeps the general fund and water reserves at required levels in the near term.
City Manager Dustin told the council that staff and the finance committee had met repeatedly over the past months to assemble the plan, which prioritizes a new Public Works building, downtown revitalization and tourism-infrastructure work. ‘‘This is probably one of the more challenging budgets I’ve ever had to put together,’’ Dustin said, noting inflation, tariffs and revenue uncertainty tied to a tax set to expire in March 2026. Finance committee members and the city treasurer praised the work and urged ongoing line-by-line monitoring.
Council approved several supplemental finance-committee recommendations before adopting the overall budget. The resolution was adopted by roll call; the mayor, vice mayor and the council members on the dais voted in favor. The council also set a schedule for additional quarterly budget reviews and asked staff to bring fee updates and follow-up items to upcoming meetings.
