Dr. Finnerton highlights summer programs, staffing and district goals ahead of new school year

Dr. Finnerton opened the Aug. 4 Lompoc Unified School District board meeting with a back-to-school update, telling trustees that “we served over 1,500 students” across multiple summer programs and that leadership teams returned with new professional development learning. She said administrators balanced learning with staff rejuvenation as the district prepares to welcome students next Tuesday.
The superintendent noted ongoing hiring needs, saying certificated and classified positions remain open and encouraging applicants to apply via EdJoin or the district website. She reiterated three district goals for the coming year—graduation and college/career readiness; grade-level achievement in English language arts and math; and stronger work with educational partners to meet diverse student needs.
