Airport takeover criticized as residents allege lack of due diligence and file suit
Summary
Speakers at the Feb. 3 Marquette County meeting urged the board to pause the county takeover of the Sawyer Regional Airport FBO, alleging committee members lacked data, a profit projection was erroneous, and a termination letter predates committee review; one group said it has filed a federal lawsuit seeking an injunction.

Public commenters pressed the board to pause the county’s decision to take over the fixed-base operator (FBO) at Marquette Sawyer Regional Airport, saying the decision was made without adequate financial review and alleging material errors in the profit-and-loss figures relied upon. Jesse Bell, who requested a pause, told the board: "You all made a decision with 0 due diligence." (Jesse Bell)
Another commenter described a termination letter dated Oct. 27 and said the county proceeded before committees had the information they say should have informed the decision. The commenter announced a federal lawsuit seeking an injunction to halt the termination of Cubic Aviation’s contract and demanded cancellation of the termination and the resignation of Chairman John Gil DeRosa. The board did not take formal action on the request to pause the takeover during the meeting.
