Supporters urge 'Measure D' to replace sunsetting sales tax; forum set Sept. 30

"Measure D is critical for a stable city budget and a strong future for our town," a public commenter said, describing the tax as one cent on a dollar ("1%") that helps fund services including fire, police, streets, the library, parks and the pool. The commenter said the tax also shares the burden with tourists and visitors who spend in town.
Tim Holt, speaking for the Dunsmuir Library Board, announced a public discussion of Measure D on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. at the library and said the board had unanimously endorsed the measure. Andrea Herr (speaking for the river-cleanup/organizing group) also urged passage and described the measure as replacing funding that will otherwise be lost when the prior sales tax sunsets in March 2026.
No council vote on Measure D occurred at the meeting; councilors and public speakers instead encouraged voter outreach and scheduled the Sept. 30 forum for public questions and discussion.
