Committee approves transfer of elevator, boiler and amusement inspections to Commerce & Insurance

Representative Butler, the sponsor, said the change “streamlines government” and that the involved agencies and the governor’s office had agreed to the transfer. He described a timeline in which Labor would deliver necessary information to Commerce by Nov. 15, Commerce would report to the General Assembly by Dec. 1, and the Department of Commerce would implement the change on July 1, 2027. “We are here to streamline government with this piece of legislation and move the elevator division, elevator inspection division, the boiler inspection division, and amusement devices under the Department of Commerce and Insurance,” Butler said.
Members asked technical questions and a committee amendment was adopted before the bill was sent to the full committee; the clerk recorded the committee vote as 7–0 in favor.
Next steps: HB2334 will go to the full committee; staff will follow the timeline specified in the bill’s language.
