Pointer Kids Club director Mo Grimm told the Mineral Point Schools personnel committee on Dec. 2 that she is seeking higher hourly pay for the program’s director and assistant director, asking the board to raise the director wage from $18.74 to $25.00 and the assistant director from $17.18 to $20.00.
Grimm presented a spreadsheet showing PKC had generated a $3,651 profit year-to-date; she said that if the requested pay rates had been in place from the start of the school year the profit would have been $1,799. Grimm told the committee about the program’s current enrollment — about 42 students — and described a graduated pickup fee schedule (for example, $6.00 at 4:30 p.m., rising $1.00 for each additional half hour) and routine expenses including snacks, supplies and occasional trips to the Mineral Point Opera House.
Grimm also noted that PKC provides part-time work opportunities for high school students but recommended against beginning high-school employees at $16.00 per hour. After discussion the personnel committee recorded a recommendation of full board support for adjusting the pay rates to $25.00 and $20.00 as requested (3-0); the item will be forwarded to the full Board of Trustees for final consideration.
