Douglas County OKs certificate for gravel-lot expansion under river-protection rules

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 4 approved a certificate of compliance under the Metropolitan River Protection Act for an existing development and a gravel-lot expansion, voting 5-0 to authorize the chair to sign related documents pending final legal review.
Austin Cronin, who presented the request, told the board the overall expansion involves 5.205 acres: "The proposed area is 2.013 acres. The already existing area is 3.192 acres." When Commissioner Whitney Kenner Jones asked whether planning and zoning had recommended approval, Cronin said the Atlanta Regional Commission "determined that it was compliant with the Chattahoochee River Corridor Plan, so that's recommending approval of [the] certificate." The board then moved and voted to approve the request.
The county opened a public comment period for the hearing; no members of the public spoke for or against the application. The board's action authorizes the chair to execute documents subject to final legal review, and the clerk recorded the unanimous vote.
