The board recognized Gustavo Rodriguez of South Almonte High School for honesty and integrity after he found and turned in cash he believed belonged to Trustee Ricardo Padilla during a school event. Principal Dr. Morales described Rodriguez as reflecting the district's values and said he contacted Trustee Padilla to confirm and resolve the matter.
Gustavo, who accepted the board's certificate, addressed the meeting briefly: "Do the right thing because it's right, not because anyone's watching you or because you feel forced to do it. Just do it." Trustees and the superintendent presented a lapel pin and congratulated him for setting a positive example for other students.
The recognition was presented during the board's acknowledgments portion of the meeting and concluded with trustees inviting his family and classmates to join briefly on the dais.
