El Monte Union honors students chosen for American Legion Boys & Girls State

The El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees presented certificates to students selected as delegates to the American Legion California Boys & Girls State program and thanked the sponsoring posts.
Superintendent Dr. Eddie Zuniga explained the program’s statewide selection, saying it brings roughly "980" attendees to Sacramento State this year and that the American Legion posts pay for transportation, lodging and meals. He specifically thanked American Legion Post 261 and Post 10 for sponsoring district students.
Trustees called each delegate forward by school to receive a certificate and a district lapel pin, then invited several students to describe their experiences. Students said the program provided networking across California, a mock-government simulation and leadership practice; one delegate described running for state controller and overcoming stage fright.
Trustees congratulated the delegates and encouraged them to stay involved and consider returning to Boys & Girls State as staff. The recognition highlighted district efforts to support early civic engagement and leadership development.
