El Monte Union names Sara Quezada district Teacher of the Year

Board President Florentio Briones and Superintendent Dr. Eddie Zuniga presented Sara Quezada of El Monte High School as the El Monte Union High School District 2025 Teacher of the Year and read a certificate honoring her service to the district.
Dr. Eddie Zuniga highlighted Quezada’s classroom leadership, county recognition and long mentorship of English learners: "Miss Quezada's passion and commitment remain as strong as ever," he said, noting her work as a department chair, curriculum writer and mentor. Principal Eddie Cuevas called her “a passionate educator every principal dreams of having on their team.”
Quezada, receiving the award with family and colleagues present, spoke emotionally about teaching as her life’s work: "Teaching has been the wind beneath my wings," she said. The board presented a certificate, lapel pin and an acrylic plaque; trustees and district staff joined Quezada and her family for photos and a reception following the recognition.
The recognition also referenced Quezada’s selection to attend Los Angeles County’s Teacher of the Year celebration earlier in the year and the district’s nominating process, which draws nominations from campus peers and leadership.
