Student trustees say homecoming halftime changes sidelined ASB; board promises follow-up

Student trustees Tessa Otegueta and Ashley Yu told the board they and other ASB members felt their leadership was overridden when administrators made last‑minute changes to the homecoming halftime show. "Students are not being listened to and that goes against our district's mission of modeling ethics and our school's vision of building a community," Tessa said during the meeting.
Tessa asked the district to allow ASB to take the lead on homecoming planning, to have administrators attend practices earlier in the season if they plan to make changes, and to ensure respectful interactions between students and adults. Superintendent Dr. Zuniga apologized during the meeting and committed to follow up with site administrators to resolve the students' concerns districtwide.
Several trustees praised the students for speaking up and asked staff to report back on concrete steps to ensure student voices are heard in event planning.
