ROMA ISD board accepts President Ricardo A. Perez's resignation; Mary Lou G. Cruz elected president

The ROMA ISD Board of Trustees on May 8 accepted the resignation of Board President Ricardo A. Perez and immediately reorganized its officers, voting unanimously on each new appointment.

Mrs. Mary Lou G. Cruz moved to accept Mr. Ricardo A. Perez's resignation; Mrs. Karina Mascorro seconded the motion and it carried 6‑0. According to the minutes, the board had met in closed session earlier under Texas Government Code 551.074 to discuss the resignation and reorganization; the record states no action was taken during closed session and all formal votes occurred in open session.

After accepting the resignation, Vice‑President Yadira A. Barrera opened nominations for officers. Mr. Jesus Rios, Jr. moved to nominate Mrs. Mary Lou G. Cruz for Board President; the motion carried 6‑0. Cruz then opened nominations for vice‑president; Mrs. Karina Mascorro nominated Mrs. Yadira A. Barrera for the position and that nomination likewise carried 6‑0. Finally, Mrs. Yadira A. Barrera nominated Mrs. Karina Mascorro for Board Secretary; the motion passed 6‑0.

The board recorded the meeting start at 6:00 p.m., that it convened in closed session at 6:01 p.m., returned to open session at 8:07 p.m., and adjourned at 8:19 p.m. The reorganized officers listed in the minutes at adjournment were Mary Lou G. Cruz (President), Yadira A. Barrera (Vice‑President) and Karina Mascorro (Secretary).

“The record shows the resignation was accepted and officers were elected by unanimous vote,” the minutes state.

The leadership change takes effect immediately under the board's recorded actions; the board did not record any further direction or interim responsibilities tied to the reorganization in the posted minutes.
