The Royal ISD Board of Trustees on June 15 approved increasing employee medical benefit contributions to $375 per month, an increase trustees recorded from $225 to $375 during discussion.
The motion, moved by Trustee Rose Jones and seconded by Trustee Cori Vahalik, passed unanimously. "Ms. Woods requested that the record show this is an increase from $225 to $375," the meeting record states, and trustees said the change was intended to help recruiting and retain staff. Trustee Elton Foster commented that employees had left the district because of medical coverage costs.
No enrollment or fiscal-impact figures were presented in open session; the board approved the change on administration's recommendation. Administration will apply the new contribution amount beginning with the 2026–27 benefits cycle and report implementation details to the board.
