The governing board approved Resolution 25-26-020, which the district presented as a preliminary step to discontinue a particular service and issue layoff notices for the 2026–27 school year.
District staff said the proposed reductions include 1.0 FTE freshman seminar teacher at Eureka High and 4.0 FTE social workers in student services, actions tied to a lack of funds and the discontinuation or uncertainty of federal grant support. “Due to lack of funds it was determined that Eureka High School is overstaffed in freshman seminar teachers in the amount of 1.0 FTE for the 2627 school year,” staff said, and noted seniority will determine which certificated employee is affected. The board approved the resolution by roll call/voice vote after discussion of staffing alternatives and timing; staff emphasized notices are preliminary and final decisions would not be made until May.
