The Douglas County planning board and Board of Commissioners approved special-use permit S2026-60 to allow a contractor's office and storage yard at 13180 Veterans Memorial Highway for a tank-cleaning business.
Applicant Travis Kelly, a local business owner, told the board his company has grown over six years and needs a secure yard and a larger above-ground, double-walled tank to hold petroleum-contact water removed from customer tanks; the product is periodically collected for off-site reprocessing. Kelly described daily operations as loading and leaving in the morning and limited offloading at the end of the day, saying offload times are generally short.
Staff recommended conditions requiring a defined outdoor storage area, a perimeter fence (opaque materials for screening), a 25-foot landscape strip adjacent to Veterans Memorial Highway with a specified mix of canopy and understory trees and shrubs, and masonry building facade standards. The planning board and commissioners voted unanimously to approve with those conditions.
