City to install rapid flashing beacon at Meadowbrook Drive crossing this fall

Public works director Shelley Daniel told the committee that McConnell and Associates began work on gap-fill sidewalk projects Sept. 15 and has already completed the Meadowbrook Drive work. Daniel said the city hired Heartland Traffic Services to install a rapid flashing beacon at the Meadowbrook trail crossing; the estimated installation cost is about $16,000 and the work was made possible by a $10,000 safety grant combined with use-tax and transportation sales-tax funds.
Daniel said the beacon installation is scheduled for this fall; she is awaiting a schedule from the contractor and emphasized that the improvement is intended to increase pedestrian safety at the crossing. The work is part of a bundle of short gap projects estimated at roughly $200,000 for ADA upgrades and sidewalk infill in three locations.
