Public works director previews Connected Kearney pathways plan; public survey open through Oct. 5

Shelley Daniel, the city's public works director, presented a comprehensive update on the use-tax-funded pathways program and a new Connected Kearney planning study funded through a Mid-America Regional Council planning grant. Daniel said the voter-approved map included 14 initial pathway projects (two recently added) and that the remaining 11 projects are currently grouped into five contracts for design and construction.
Daniel described the Connected Kearney plan as a citywide strategy to improve bike, pedestrian and transit connectivity, prioritize downtown enhancements and create an inventory of existing sidewalks and trails. She said public engagement is underway and a related survey remains open through Oct. 5; the city will keep the survey open during Oktoberfest and provide iPads at events to gather additional input.
