Councilmember Webb sponsored a bill that would require boards, commissions, committees and authorities with financial authority or fiduciary duties to record proceedings and make minutes publicly available. Webb said the goal is transparency for bodies with fiscal responsibilities and that many commissions are currently unrecorded.
Members discussed practicalities: Councilwoman Allen noted the practical problem that minutes must first be approved by each board before they can be posted and that a 72-hour posting requirement can be unworkable. The sponsor agreed to a one-meeting deferral so staff and sponsors can refine the language, reconcile exemptions for legally protected sessions, and ensure minutes-approval timing is feasible. The committee voted to defer the bill one meeting.
