Parkway grade separation, Pit School Overpass fix and Homestead phases highlighted in engineering update

Senior Civil Engineer Brandon Rodriguez gave a comprehensive verbal update on engineering projects. He reported Parkway grade separation design is continuing and that the city has applied for grants and is coordinating environmental and structural review with Caltrans and UPRR. Rodriguez said the 2024–25 pavement preservation project was updated earlier in the year but is on hold pending Electrification Technical Assistance Program processing and winter scheduling.
Rodriguez described Cycle 10 pedestrian improvements as roughly 90–95 percent complete pending RRFB (rectangular rapid flashing beacon) and signage installation, and said Cycle 11 design is underway focused on the Good Neighbor School Crossing. He detailed a Pit School Overpass concern where a southbound/northbound lane has a large drop; the city has engaged an on-call contractor to provide a temporary fix while a long-term solution is developed and approvals are sought. Rodriguez also reviewed Homestead and other development phases with anticipated warranty and acceptance dates and noted staffing recruitment for transit and maintenance positions.
