Comal County accepts governor-funded specialty-courts and truancy prevention grants

The Comal County Commissioners approved a fiscal year 2026 specialty courts grant award of $89,082 from the Office of the Governor to fund an additional year of services for the accountability court program. Katie Box, representing the accountability court, said the funds cover program services and asked the court to accept the award and authorize the county judge to sign electronically.
Separately, staff requested acceptance of a $30,000 Office of the Governor truancy prevention grant to support the Student and Family Empowerment Program's counseling services. Collins explained that the grant targets children identified by partners as at risk but not yet referred for delinquent offenses. Both grants were approved by the court.
"This grant is used as, as you'll recall, to provide therapy services specifically to kids who have not yet been referred for any delinquent offense," Collins said, summarizing the truancy-prevention program's purpose.
