Wilfred Slaughter accepted the recognition and thanked the court for the honor, saying, "It's been a whirlwind. It's been appreciated." Carol Johnson, recognized for decades of historic preservation and civic leadership, told attendees, "Thank you all so very much for recognizing me" and praised those present for their service. Michael Meek, credited in the proclamation with partnering across city, county and school districts to spur job growth, reflected on his work with county leaders over several decades and accepted the honor on behalf of community partners.
The proclamations noted service on local boards, volunteer efforts and contributions to New Braunfels and Comal County. Commissioners moved and approved each proclamation by voice vote.
