The Shallowater Independent School District Board of Trustees approved maintenance and interest-and-sinking tax rates for 2024-25 and adopted an ordinance setting a combined property tax rate of 1.2552 during a special meeting Aug. 29.
Brian Carreon moved to adopt the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate for 2024-25; Aaron Morris seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Kyla Hamilton moved to adopt the Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rate for 2024-25; Alana Hayes seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
During consideration of ordinance item 9735, Board President Brice Foster moved to adopt an ordinance setting the M&O and I&S tax rates and stated, "I move that the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of 1.2552 which is effectively a 10.58% percent increase in the tax revenue over the no-new-revenue rate." Kyle Motheral seconded the ordinance motion; the motion passed unanimously.
