Savoy ISD declines districtwide SB11 prayer policy, citing existing policy for religious expression
Summary
On a motion of the board, Savoy ISD declined to adopt a district policy requiring a period of prayer and Bible reading on each campus under Education Code 25.0823, noting existing local policy (FNA Legal and Local) already addresses religious expression.

The Savoy ISD Board of Trustees voted Feb. 9 to decline adopting a district policy that would require each campus to provide a period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text under Education Code 25.0823.
Board Trustee Sandy Petree moved to decline the policy proposal and Joe Gilbert seconded; the motion carried with five yeas, one abstention recorded as a conflict, and one absence. The minutes state the board declined adoption because policy FNA (Legal and Local) already exists to support religious expression on campuses. The motion as recorded does not direct staff to draft any new policy language; it declines to add a districtwide mandate beyond existing local policy.
