The council approved an eight-month extension of a lease allowing Block Construction to use the tankage site at 1798 Bay Road for worker parking while the firm finishes an affordable housing project; the extension runs from February through September 2025. Councilmembers said the extension answers a contractor request but urged staff to communicate timelines to avoid jeopardizing a proposed interim homeless housing collaboration with San Mateo County and Pastor Banes.
Councilmember Romero noted Pastor Banes had presented a concept for roughly 44 interim housing units and asked staff to follow up with both Block Construction and Pastor Banes so the city would not lose the opportunity for county partnership: "I would not wanna lose the opportunity of getting 44 units of homeless housing in the city." Amy Chen, community development staff, said Block Construction requested a later date because the project's parking structure won’t be ready by February and asked for use through September. Council approved the consent motion excluding several pulled items and then approved 3.3 after discussion and a motion to convey council concerns to the contractor.
