GUNTER ISD plans high-school restroom overhaul to add family restrooms before fall term

Designers told the board the most urgent work is remodeling six outdated high-school restrooms into more efficient layouts and two family restrooms; permitting is underway and contractors hope to finish by August.
District project staff told trustees the restroom renovation at the high school is the near-term priority and is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the school year.
"The restrooms for the high school...that's the one that's most critical right now because we have to hit the ground running pretty quickly," the project lead said. Designers said they would reconfigure inefficient layouts, move corridor sinks into restrooms, reclaim janitorial space, and add two family restrooms with changing tables to increase fixture counts and circulation.
Staff said permitting has been submitted and the work has been separated from the admin-building scope so restroom crews can begin as soon as permits and short lead-time items are cleared. "We're gonna have four restrooms still available to students, but two of them will be closed down and get started," a staff member said, describing how the phasing will preserve student access during construction.
The board did not change the schedule at the meeting; staff will return with final bid pricing for the handful of remaining items at the next meeting.
