GUNTER ISD pushes for traffic signal at Highway 121 intersection rather than a new turn lane

Presenter told the board the district and a developer-funded study looked at options for the Highway 121 intersection adjacent to Naples and said a traffic signal is the needed solution. "So we feel strong today, turn signal, a traffic light is what's needed in that intersection," the Presenter said, adding the district will take the study results to the city and TxDOT.
Presenter argued that adding a turn lane could prove temporary because future renovations could alter the roadway and undo the work, whereas a traffic signal would address recurring safety and congestion concerns. Staff said the warrant study results are expected back soon and, if the warrant supports it, the district will ask the city to support a signal and then take the request to TxDOT.
