Polk County adopts housing tax-abatement program with East Grand Forks for 2027–2029

The Polk County Board of Commissioners on July 21, 2026, adopted Resolution 2026-38 to participate in the City of East Grand Forks’ New Housing Abatement Program. Under the terms described in the resolution, the program applies to new residential construction only — including modular homes and stick-built single-family dwellings, townhomes and twin homes — that are ready for occupancy in the years 2027 through 2029. Commissioner Warren Strandell offered the resolution and Commissioner Gary Willhite seconded it; the clerk recorded the vote as YEAS: Commissioner Reese, Commissioner Strandell, Commissioner Lee, Commissioner Willhite and Commissioner Pape; NAYS: None. The board described this resolution as a three-year extension of an existing program and noted the City of East Grand Forks and Independent School District 595 will participate.
