Residents, developer press council for traffic study and new signage near Franklin Street Social

Residents and a nearby business owner urged Red Lion Borough Council on Dec. 9 to address traffic and safety problems near the newly opened Franklin Street Social. Erica Gemmill of 341 W. Maple Street told council she "recently counted 30-40 cars (in an hour) making a U-turn at the end of Locust Lane," and asked for a traffic study and added signs, including No Outlet, No U-Turn and No Parking signs.
Jordan Ilyes, developer and co-owner of Franklin Social, said there is adequate parking for residents and businesses but that better directional signage would help. "There is enough parking for the residents of the apartments AND the commercial uses, but ... more signage to direct traffic would be helpful," the minutes record.
Solicitor Samantha Craley advised the proper sequence: first a traffic study, then an ordinance authorizing signs and enforcement, and then sign installation. Council members indicated they will seek a traffic study—likely in spring—and contact PSP liaison Trooper Grothey to request extra patrols during Friday and Saturday peak hours. Council encouraged residents to document incidents to support any future ordinance or enforcement requests.
The council did not approve immediate public-traffic signage on borough-controlled streets at the Dec. 9 meeting; however, the minutes note that directional signage on private property could be installed now. Councilmember Tony Musso asked for patience as the town manages growth tied to new businesses in the borough.
