Planning commission forwards rezoning to City Commission; protest period and dates set
Summary
Following a unanimous voice vote on Aug. 4 the Planning Commission forwarded ZMA26-005 to the City Commission; staff said a 14-day protest period runs through Aug. 18 and the ordinance is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 24.
After discussion and questions of staff and the applicant, a commissioner moved to recommend approval of ZMA26-005 and the commission carried the motion by voice vote.
Dustin explained the next procedural steps: "If the commission recommends approval, a 14 day protest period will run through August 18, and the application will be forwarded to the city commission for consideration by ordinance, tentatively scheduled for August 24." The commission’s recommendation does not approve any building or change of use; it only forwards the rezoning request for City Commission consideration and starts the protest period.
With the Planning Commission’s recommendation recorded, the matter will appear on the City Commission’s agenda for an ordinance vote; any citizen protests filed during the 14-day window could affect the final process under local ordinance procedures.
