Sanitary engineer Gary Newbrow told commissioners the July 22 public hearing on the household sewer connection project produced near-unanimous support: "98.53% of the property owners were in support of the project," he said, and only one resident spoke in opposition. With hearing results in hand, staff requested an increase to MS's contract to cover construction administration and inspection for the remainder of the project.
Newbrow estimated the total project cost at roughly $3 million to $3.1 million. "We were somewhere around 3,000,000," he said, acknowledging the figure was approximate. Commissioners asked about total cost and sequencing; Newbrow said the county would provide grindings, oversee inspections and the contractor would perform the reclamation and paving work under county standards.
The board also discussed resident notification: planning and sanitary staff said letters would be mailed to affected households and that service connections would be provided so residents would not face assessments or capital charges on their bills. One commissioner confirmed the county will not add capital assessments to those properties' bills and staff agreed to coordinate outreach.
