Florence hires Jeffery Smith as full-time police officer starting Dec. 1

The City of Florence voted in executive session on Nov. 18 to hire Jeffery Smith as a full-time police officer at $21.06 per hour, with a start date of December 1, 2025, contingent on a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing. The hiring motion was made in executive session by Alderman Mason Herrin and seconded by Alderman Brent Sistrunk on Chief Brad Burns' recommendation.
The motion carried with Aldermen Mason Herrin, Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk recorded as voting Aye; Aldermen John Banks and Brian Grantham were absent. The vote followed a personnel discussion held in executive session earlier in the meeting. The board returned to regular session at 7:10 p.m.
