Heritage Pines CDD approves $19,200 algae-treatment contract with Premier Lakes

The Heritage Pines Community Development District board voted Oct. 15 to approve a $19,200 contract with Premier Lakes, moving pond-algae treatment away from the district's incumbent vendor.
"This is an overall cost saving of $3,200 per year when compared to the SOLitude contract," District Manager Chuck Adams said as he presented the proposal and the recommended timeline to terminate SOLitude with a 30-day notice and begin Premier Lakes service on Dec. 1, 2024. On motion by Supervisor Michael Walsh and seconded by Supervisor Carol Vaughan, the board approved the Premier Lakes proposal with unanimous support.
Resident Susan Napolitano asked what chemical SOLitude applies to the lakes; Adams responded that "a copper-based product is used to target algae" and that the odor residents sometimes notice comes from degasification of the algae. Adams reviewed the scope of services for the new vendor and said he would initiate the termination clause to end SOLitude services on Nov. 30, 2024.
