Central CUSD 3 outlines curriculum work, UFLI progress and staff AI training

The district’s curriculum director briefed the board on ongoing curriculum reviews and professional development during the April 15 meeting. Meetings occurred with CJHS and CHS ELA departments to review student writing trends and plan a district writing committee to represent all building levels.
Kindergarten teachers are in their second year implementing UFLI phonics instruction and are projected to complete 15–20 more lessons than last year because of an earlier start. The district also reported that all CJHS and CHS teachers participated in an "AI in Writing" professional development session. District staff continue active research into math curriculum options for 7th and 8th grade to align instruction across middle and high school levels.
The board noted the curriculum updates and did not delay action on related agenda items; the Curriculum meeting scheduled for this period was cancelled, and the Curriculum Director will convene building representatives to form the outlined writing committee.
