Curriculum committee advances digital-product audit, SIP days and explores free SEL pilot

At the Feb. 13 curriculum committee meeting and reported Feb. 18 to the board, staff said they completed a digital product survey/audit to identify which instructional products to retain or discontinue. The committee recommended adding additional SIP (School Improvement Planning) days to next year's calendar to strengthen teacher collaboration and proposed creating a writing team to supplement the ELA curriculum.
Administrators told the board that Great Minds (math) no longer offers hardcover textbooks and will provide consumables and digital products, requiring annual consumable purchases. The Curriculum Director also reported that the district's Title team will attend the Illinois Teacher Leadership Summit (Feb. 27–28) and met with Allie Walch of the Tracy Family Foundation about joining a pilot of Open Parachute, a social-emotional learning program for pre-K–8; staff planned a follow-up meeting with Dr. Hayley Watson, founder of Open Parachute, to explore the opportunity.
