Florence accepts two resignations, hires new officer and approves pay and training

At its March 3 meeting the Florence board accepted two resignations in the police department, hired a new officer at $21.06 per hour and approved training for a dispatcher, plus a salary raise for the street director.
The City of Florence Mayor and Board accepted the resignations of Officer Hayden Lukens, effective Feb. 23, 2026, and Dispatcher Lucy Macias, effective Feb. 24, 2026, during an executive session March 3. The board then voted to hire Jason Love as a full-time police officer at $21.06 per hour, with a start date of March 4, 2026, pending a successful background check and drug and alcohol testing.
The board also approved sending Dispatcher Corry Mobley to a 40-hour dispatch course in Clinton, Mississippi, April 6–12, 2026, and to pay the $395 registration fee and related costs allowed by state law. In the same executive session the board approved increasing Street Director David Myers' salary to $65,000 annually, effective immediately. The motions for the personnel actions carried on recorded votes.
