Florence board approves claims docket, minutes and enters executive session to handle personnel matters
Summary
At its Jan. 6 meeting the Florence board approved the claims docket and Dec. 16 minutes, voted to consider and then enter executive session over police personnel, and returned to adjourn the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
During the Jan. 6 regular meeting the board approved routine administrative items: a motion by Alderman Brian Grantham, seconded by Alderman Brent Sistrunk, to approve the claims docket carried unanimously, and a motion by Alderman Kyle Martin, seconded by Alderman John Banks, to approve the minutes of Dec. 16, 2025 also carried unanimously.
Later in the meeting Alderman John Banks moved, seconded by Alderman Brent Sistrunk, to consider whether an executive session was needed to discuss a personnel matter in the police department involving the positions of dispatcher and officer; that motion carried. The board then voted to go into executive session at 6:45 p.m. (motion Grantham/Herrin). The minutes record multiple formal personnel motions taken in executive session (resignation accepted; two hires approved; training authorized). The board returned to regular session at 7:05 p.m., and Mayor Trey Gunn adjourned the meeting at 7:05 p.m.
